Protein Fortified Foods

A quick scan of the supermarket shelves reveals a rapid increase in the number of grocery items with added protein ingredients from animal and plant sources in different forms (e.g. powders, crisps, chips etc).   The findings of a study supported by the Australian Institute of Sport, Sport Australia and Sport Integrity Australia determining the risk of these foods to athletes who undergo testing for banned substances has just been released.  This project was driven by the practical challenges facing sports dietitians when recommending foods to athletes and was facilitated by a group of SDA members.  A number of resources have come out of this project and feature as this edition’s Hot Topic.
